Shaquille “Swinging Giant” O’Neal joins Tiger “Crimson Cat” Woods in this spot for the new PGA Tour 13 video game, which pays homage to old kung fu movies.
The commercial shows the two champions swinging using the Kinect version of the game, which also happens to look like kung fu.Posted in Basketball, Golf, Technology
This weekend, the NBA’s finest will showcase their skills in a variety of events which will lead up to the All-Star Game.
Here’s what you can expect to see this weekend:
On Friday, you can catch the All-Star Celebrity Game with everyone from rapper Common to Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino competing. Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant will serve as captains of each team. The game starts at 4 pm PST on ESPN.
Later that night, a new format to the Rookies Challenge will take place with the Rising Stars Challenge. Rookies and sophomores will play together on teams managed by Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal. A draft of the teams was held last week, and a surprise decision to add Heat rookie Norris Cole and the Knicks’ newest star Jeremy Lin has added some allure to the event. The rosters are stacked, from Blake Griffin and Ricky Rubio on Team Shaq to John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins on Team Chuck. The event starts at 6 pm PST on TNT.
On Saturday, a number of events will air. Saturday night All-Star coverage begins at 5 pm PST on TNT beginning with the Shooting Stars Challenge, then the Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, and finally the holy grail of All-Star Weekend: the Sprite Slam Dunk contest. The dunk contest will also have a new format: only one single-round will be voted on solely by fans with the introduction of Twitter voting. All contestants are first-time dunkers.
On Sunday, catch the All-Star Game on TNT at 5:30 pm PST. Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant and others from the West will take on the East roster that includes Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Paul Pierce.Posted in Basketball, Sports Date of the Week
Shaquille O’Neal hosted the Second Annual Carton Network Hall of Game Awards over the weekend in Santa Monica. The show, which hands out awards in categories ranging from “That’s How I Roll” to “We Got Game” will air tonight on Cartoon Network at 4 pm PST.
Cam Newton got the award for “Gnarliest Newb.” Other football stars who won awards: Victor Cruz beat out Novak Djokovic for the “Dance Machine” award. Tim Tebow got the “Captain Clutch” award and Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson won the “Dynamic Duo” award.
Always one to make us say, “Awww,” Tim Tebow brought a special date. Presli Collins, a 9-year-old from Colorado with a genetic tumor disorder, got to walk to “green” carpet with the Broncos star.

He spoke to Arash Markazi of ESPN LA after the milestone, eluding to the fact he plans on retiring as a Laker. He said,

During an episode of Inside the NBA on TNT last week, Shaquille O’Neal said he would pay someone $1,000 if they got a tattoo of Charles Barkley kissing referee Dick Bavetta. Barkley and Bavetta were caught locking lips, if only momentarily, after participating in a foot race together during festivities at the 2007 All-Star Weekend.
One man took him up on his offer. Emmet Bentley, a bartender in Santa Barbara, got the tattoo then posted it on Twitter for Shaq to see. Shaquille O’Neal not only agreed to pay Bentley the $1,000, he also challenged him to get another ridiculous tattoo for $1,000 and gave him free tickets to the Lakers vs Mavericks game last night.
The second tattoo Bentley got per Shaq’s request features all the Inside the NBA on TNT announcers in Mount Rushmore fashion. We love how Shaquille is depicted as his character in Kazaam.
Rumor has it Bentley has loads of other ridiculous tattoos including a unicorn “tramp stamp” and a life-sized bottle of Jack Daniels on his stomach. He didn’t think twice about getting paid to add to his collection. Plus, he got to meet Shaq.

Charles Barkley appeared on Saturday Night Live this weekend, playing in a skit of Inside the NBA on TNT as Shaquille O’Neal. Kenan Thompson played Barkley and Bill Hader did a hilarious impersonation of Ernie Johnson Jr.Posted in Basketball, TV
Shaquille O’Neal was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to talk about his book Shaq: Uncut, but what we found to be more entertaining was his 5-foot-2 girlfriend Nicole ‘Hoopz’ Alexander carrying him on her back.
Check out the video for some pretty funny conversation between Kimmel and Shaq, and to watch the Big Diesel topple over on stage.Posted in Basketball, TV
The retired NBA star wasn’t allowed into Mars 2112 in New York City over the weekend because his attire wasn’t up to the club’s standards, according to TMZ. Shaq was sporting jeans, a sweatshirt, tennis shoes, and a beanie. After being notified he wouldn’t be able to get in, he said “Are you serious?” then just shrugged his shoulders and walked off.
He wasn’t with his girlfriend at the time, but as you can see from the picture above of the couple out and about she apparently can’t get him to dress a little better.

In his new autobiography, Shaq Uncut: My Story, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal talks about the very public war of words he and former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant had at one point. Some may remember an interview Kobe did with ESPN’s Jim Gray which sparked one of many battles between O’Neal and Bryant.
O’Neal supposedly got so upset with Bryant making public statements about him being out of shape and faking an injury, that he threatened to murder him. An excerpt from the book details an argument the two had when Kobe was having legal problems in Colorado. The excerpt reads,
“Kobe stands up and goes face-to-face with me and says, ‘You always said you’re my big brother, you’d do anything for me, and then this Colorado thing happens and you never even called me.’ I did call him. … So here we are now, and we find out he really was hurt that we didn’t stand behind him. That was something new. I didn’t think he gave a rat’s ass about us either way. ‘Well, I thought you’d publicly support me, at least,’ Kobe said. ‘You’re supposed to be my friend.’
Brian Shaw chimed in with ‘Kobe, why would you think that? Shaq had all these parties and you never showed up for any of them. We invited you to dinner on the road and you didn’t come. Shaq invited you to his wedding and you weren’t there. Then you got married and didn’t invite any of us. And now you are in the middle of this problem, this sensitive situation, and now you want all of us to step up for you. We don’t even know you.’ … Everyone was starting to calm down when I told Kobe, ‘If you ever say anything like what you said to Jim Gray ever again, I will kill you.’
Kobe shrugged and said, ‘Whatever.’
The book is due out Nov. 15. We look forward to reading more never-before-heard stories from the Big Threatener.

Happy Halloween! Many athletes have been getting into the Halloween spirit, dressing up and sharing the pictures on Twitter. Here’s a round-up of a few athletes in costume:
Carmelo Anthony and son Kiyan both put on scary silver masks, but Kiyan’s trick-or-treating costume was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
New York Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire dressed up as King Solomon.
Phoenix Coyotes hockey player Raffi Torres caught some criticism for his Jay-Z costume, complete with a “pregnant” Beyonce sidekick (his wife), because of his use of face paint.
Happy Halloween from Queen of Sports. If you’re dressing up tonight as an athlete, send us your pictures and we will post them here on the site!
